I'm Tom Almasi - Postwar Studio's owner, upholsterer, restorationist, curator, and beyond. I come from an engineering background and started puttering around with vintage furniture shortly before the plague of 2020. The subsequent lockdown gave me lots of time to figure out how to stitch fabric and leather, rub oil onto wood, and much more - all with an emphasis on period-correct techniques. Fast forward a few years, and what had started out as a passion project to bring good design into my own home, is now a small business where I help others accomplish this very goal.

When I'm not knee-deep in furniture restoration, you can find me tinkering with old cars, playing classical piano, and working full-time in a research and development lab.

Coming soon.

Please email, call, or message to inquire about purchasing. All pieces are located in Perth Amboy, NJ 08861. Local pickup is welcomed, delivery is available, and if needed, I can help you arrange freight shipping for anything, to anywhere in the continental US.

If there is a specific piece you were after, say, a rare Danish cabinetmaker chair, or an early Eames lounge chair done in a leather of your choosing, feel free to ask. I just may be able to help make it happen.

  • Upholstery
  • Refinishing
  • Structural repairs for wood
  • Veneer repairs
  • Replacement or fabrication of missing parts
  • Shockmount replacement for Eames lounge chairs

You can view completed projects in the gallery tab to have an idea of how your piece could turn out. I predominantly work on Eames lounge chairs, along with certain Danish and Brazilian modern pieces.

Feel free to send in some pictures for a quote. I'm quite selective about the projects I take on, as time and space are limited. But if I do take on your project, it'll receive my full and undivided attention for however long it takes to get it done right.
